## Limits

- Concurrency: enforced only on these endpoints — the per-plan limit is the "Concurrency limit" figure in the One-Off/Monthly/Yearly Plans tables above:
  - Reverse DNS Lookup — https://apifreaks.com/api/reverse-dns-lookup
  - Reverse WHOIS Lookup — https://apifreaks.com/api/reverse-whois
  - Bulk Screenshot API — https://apifreaks.com/api/bulk-screenshot
  - Website Screenshot — https://apifreaks.com/api/website-screenshot
  - ZIP Code Radius Search — https://apifreaks.com/api/zip-codes-radius-search
  - Email Checker API — https://apifreaks.com/api/email-checker
  - Bulk Email Validation — https://apifreaks.com/api/bulk-email-validation
  - Web Scraper API — https://apifreaks.com/api/web-scraper
- Credit reset: One-Off credits never expire. Monthly subscription credits expire after 30 days. Yearly subscription credits reset every 30 days for the duration of the annual term.
- Surcharge / hard cap: on Monthly and Yearly plans with a non-"None" Surcharge Rate, exceeding the plan's credit allowance mid-cycle draws from a surcharge pool at that rate, up to the plan's Surcharge Limit, instead of blocking requests. Plans with no surcharge, and all One-Off plans, stop serving requests once credits are exhausted until more credits are purchased (see 402 codes below).
- Seats: organization plans include 10 seats; additional seats cost $5/month each; Enterprise seat counts are custom.

## Billing & Financial Mechanics

- Billing trigger: every response includes an `X-AF-Credits-Cost` header showing the credits consumed by that request. A failed request returns a 4xx or 5xx status code (see Error Codes below).
- Payment processor: card payments via Paddle for standard plans; Enterprise customers may pay by bank wire transfer or invoice.
- Renewal & retries: subscription plans auto-charge at the end of each billing period. On payment failure, up to 3 retry attempts are made with email notification before the account is suspended.
- Cancellation: cancel anytime from the account dashboard, effective immediately; API access and billing continue through the end of the current paid period.
- Refunds: a prorated refund is available if you cancel before the end of a billing period and have not used any of that period's allocated credits. No refund is issued once any credits for that period have been used.

## Procurement

- DPA / compliance documentation: contact support@apifreaks.com. Custom Data Processing Agreements are available for Enterprise customers.
- SLA: Enterprise plans carry a 99.99% uptime guarantee. If not met, a partial refund of that month's payment based on downtime is issued only upon customer request — it is not issued automatically.
- Invoicing: Enterprise accounts get a dedicated account manager and can be billed via invoice/PO workflow with extended payment terms instead of automatic card charges.

## Error Codes & System Behaviors

`402 Payment Required` — credits exhausted, request not served. Real example:

```json
{
  "error": "API Access Exception",
  "message": "One-off Credits limit reached. Please buy subscription credits or add one-off credits to use APIFreaks.",
  "path": "/v2.0/geolocation/lookup",
  "status": 402,
  "timestamp": "2026-09-04T11:23:54.609Z"
}
```

`429 Too Many Requests` — concurrency limit exceeded (see Limits).

## Examples

- Organization of 15 members on the Lite plan: $20.00/month base + 5 × $5/month extra seats = $45.00/month.
- New signups start with 10,000 free credits, no credit card required.

## FAQs

### Do I need a separate plan for each API?

No. APIFreaks is one plan, one bill, every API. Nothing is gated. The same credits work across every API and every feature. That is true on every plan, including the free One-Off Credits that come with a new account.

### What is a credit?

A credit is what an API request costs. Credits come as One-Off Credits or Subscription Credits. The amount deducted per request varies by API: some cost more, some cost less. You can see that amount in the X-AF-Credits-Cost response header. On asynchronous APIs it may not be the final cost, because the work finishes after the first response. Exact costs are on the [Pricing Calculator](https://apifreaks.com/pricing/calculator).

### What's the difference between One-Off Credits and Subscription Credits?

One-Off Credits are a one-time purchase. They stay in the account until they are used: they do not expire, there is no deadline, and unused One-Off Credits carry over. Subscription Credits are recurring, billed monthly or yearly. On both monthly and yearly billing, Subscription Credits reset every month; unused Subscription Credits do not carry over. How you buy: One-Off Credits, Once; Subscription Credits, Recurring, monthly or yearly. Credits: One-Off Credits, Stay until used, no expiry, unused credits carry over; Subscription Credits, Reset every month, unused credits do not carry over. Extra credits if you run out: One-Off Credits, Not available; Subscription Credits, Surcharge, if the plan allows it.

### What happens if I run out of Subscription Credits before the month ends?

If Subscription Credits run out mid-plan, upgrade the Subscription Credits plan from the [account dashboard](https://apifreaks.com/account/dashboard), either manually or by enabling Auto Upgrade so the plan upgrades automatically when usage hits the threshold set for credits used on the current plan. On plans that allow Surcharge, it could be left enabled so extra credits keep requests going. Those extra credits cost more per credit than the credits in your plan. Monthly plans are billed at month end for surcharge used. Yearly plans take that cost from next month's included credits, and only bill at year-end if later months cannot cover it. That extra cost is a cue to move to a larger plan, not a reason to stay on the current one.

### What happens if I upgrade or downgrade my subscription mid-cycle?

A mid-cycle upgrade or downgrade is prorated. The remaining charge depends on how far the cycle has already run and how many Subscription Credits have already been used. On a downgrade, unused value is applied to the next plan rather than refunded.

### How does billing work for an Organization?

An Organization is shared billing. All members in the Organization share one credit pool and one bill. One-Off Credits and Subscription Credits are bought for the Organization, not for each member. The Organization fee is separate from the credit plan the Organization uses.

### How do I cancel my subscription?

From the [account dashboard](https://apifreaks.com/account/dashboard), go to the Subscription Credits card and click Cancel. Then choose Deactivate At Next Period or Deactivate Now. Deactivate At Next Period keeps the subscription active through the billing cycle already paid for. Requests keep running until that cycle ends, with no further charges. It can be resumed from the dashboard before the cycle ends. Deactivate Now ends the subscription immediately. Remaining Subscription Credits on that plan stop at that point, with no further charges.

### How do I see how many credits I have left?

The [account dashboard](https://apifreaks.com/account/dashboard) shows your balance. You can also check it from your own code with the [Credits Usage API](https://apifreaks.com/api/usage-credits).

### How are credits handled if a request does not succeed?

Credits used for a request are restored when the API returns an error status (4xx or 5xx). A request that is withdrawn after it has already been issued keeps those credits applied, because the call was already accepted.

### When should I use a bulk API?

When you need to look up many items at once. One bulk call replaces a long sequence of single requests, so your code opens fewer network connections and spends less time waiting on round trips. Credits are still counted per item.

### How are bulk API credits handled?

Bulk endpoints use the same credits as calling each item on its own. Credits are counted per item, not per request. If one domain check costs 18 credits, ten domains cost 180 credits whether you send ten calls or one bulk call.

### How are credits handled if some items in a bulk request do not succeed?

Credits apply only to items that return a successful result. If you check 50 domains and 3 come back invalid, credits are used for the 47 that succeeded.

### Can I have Subscription Credits and buy One-Off Credits too?

Both can be used on the same account. Subscription Credits are used first. Once those run out, One-Off Credits are used next.

### What is Surcharge?

Surcharge is extra credits used after Subscription Credits run out, on plans that allow it. Those extra credits cost more per credit than the credits included in your plan. The surcharge rate and cap are shown on each plan. It is enabled by default, and can be disabled. Using Surcharge is a cue that the current plan no longer covers typical usage; the intended next step is to upgrade, manually or with Auto Upgrade.

### How does Surcharge work?

Included credits are used first. If they run out, Surcharge keeps requests going up to the plan cap. Those extra credits cost more per credit than the credits in your plan. Monthly: you are billed at the end of that month for the surcharge you used. Yearly: surcharge is not billed when you use it. Its cost is taken from next month's included credits at the higher surcharge rate, so that month starts with fewer credits. You are billed at the end of the year only if later months cannot cover that cost.

### What is Auto Upgrade?

Auto Upgrade moves you to a larger plan automatically when your credits usage hits a threshold you choose. It is disabled by default.

### What Auto Upgrade options can I set?

You can pick one of these options: 80% of your Subscription Credits used; 90% of your Subscription Credits used; 100% of your Subscription Credits used; 50% of your surcharge credits used; 70% of your surcharge credits used; 80% of your surcharge credits used; 90% of your surcharge credits used. Subscription Credits options (80%, 90%, 100%) upgrade the plan while you still have Subscription Credits left. Surcharge-credit options (50%, 70%, 80%, 90%) wait until surcharge has already started, then upgrade once that share of the surcharge pool is used. For instance, 90% of Subscription Credits used upgrades the plan once 90% of that month's Subscription Credits are gone. 70% of surcharge credits used waits until Surcharge has started, then upgrades once 70% of the surcharge pool is gone.

### Do One-Off Credits have Surcharge or Auto Upgrade?

No. Both only apply to Subscription Credits. With One-Off Credits, once they are gone, you can buy more whenever you want.

### What does "concurrency limit" mean?

Concurrency is how many requests can run at the same time. Only a handful of APIs have a concurrency limit; the rest do not. The plan sets that number on: [Reverse DNS Lookup](https://apifreaks.com/api/reverse-dns-lookup), [Reverse WHOIS Lookup](https://apifreaks.com/api/reverse-whois), [Bulk Screenshot API](https://apifreaks.com/api/bulk-screenshot), [Website Screenshot](https://apifreaks.com/api/website-screenshot), [ZIP Code Radius Search](https://apifreaks.com/api/zip-codes-radius-search), [Email Checker API](https://apifreaks.com/api/email-checker), [Bulk Email Validation](https://apifreaks.com/api/bulk-email-validation), [Web Scraper API](https://apifreaks.com/api/web-scraper). Those APIs return X-Concurrent-Threads (the maximum your plan allows) and X-Concurrent-Threads-Active (how many of those requests are running now) on the response. See the [Concurrency Limits page](https://apifreaks.com/docs/concurrency-limits) for what each plan allows.

### What happens if I go over my concurrency limit?

The extra requests are rejected. Requests within the concurrency limit go through; anything beyond it returns an error. On those APIs, every response includes X-Concurrent-Threads (the maximum your plan allows) and X-Concurrent-Threads-Active (how many of those requests are running right now). Use those headers to stay under the cap. Most APIs are not capped this way. It applies only here: [Reverse DNS Lookup](https://apifreaks.com/api/reverse-dns-lookup), [Reverse WHOIS Lookup](https://apifreaks.com/api/reverse-whois), [Bulk Screenshot API](https://apifreaks.com/api/bulk-screenshot), [Website Screenshot](https://apifreaks.com/api/website-screenshot), [ZIP Code Radius Search](https://apifreaks.com/api/zip-codes-radius-search), [Email Checker API](https://apifreaks.com/api/email-checker), [Bulk Email Validation](https://apifreaks.com/api/bulk-email-validation), [Web Scraper API](https://apifreaks.com/api/web-scraper). See the [Concurrency Limits page](https://apifreaks.com/docs/concurrency-limits) for what each plan allows.

### Where can I learn more about Organizations?

See the [Organization & Teams page](https://apifreaks.com/docs/organization) for roles, seats, permissions, and how shared billing works.
